Building Structures

In class today we had to modify our original NXT robot so that it would include all four of the robotic sensors. This was an interesting task because there is not a lot of space on the robot and you have to make sure that the robot is also balanced as well as includes all four sensors.

We started by flipping the actual NXT block from standing uproght to lying down across the frame, immediately making the robot very stable. We then attached the two sensors that did NOT have to be in the front of the robot, the sound sensor and the light sensor. We then had to had add both the ultrasonic sensor and the touch sensor to the front of the robot, without either one getting in the way and interfering with the other. This was an interesting task but Drew and I created our own little rig to hang the touch sensor under and infront of the ultrasonic sensor. In this way we are still able to use both without any problems.
Next class we will need to run some tests on our NXT and make sure all the sensors work properly with this new rig. After we are sure they all work correctly, we can start making our program for the challenge.

Michael,
Nice job on your design. Have you been mounting your sensors using a modular style construction so that they will be easy to modify or move if necessary?

Thanks Mr. Inskeep, all our sensors are mounted by very simple designs and so far have been very easy to move or modify as we see fit.
